An open letter to Fiat

a sad copy
My next car

First of all, I have loved Fiats for about 50 yrs now.

My first Fiat:(mine was green)1st car front1st car rear

I will be trading my Kia Soul in of a 500 one of these days, but there are two points I would strongly suggest. 1) 500L: you might sell a bunch of these, but I think you went the wrong way. either give us a little 850 spyder/sport,
possibly the cutest car ever made
or even better yet, a SmartCar killer with a .9 twin air and a tiny car, that meets safety standards and has a back seat and weighs about 2000 lb! i dont want a Fiat to beat a Porsche, if I did, I would buy an Abarth. I want a tiny, cute little car that gets 50 mpg and makes me fall in love every time I walk out to my garage! That brings me to point 2)Avoid putting the new 500 in the same shot as the real 500, it makes the car I am going to have to buy look bloated and sad. I know the new Beetle and the new Mini did the same thing, but until you are ready to bring out a new model, maybe call it… I don’t know… the topolino…
keep a little space between the lovely little jewels and the modern resemblance. I have a friend who jokes that a Chrysler 300 looks like a Bentley, unless there is a Bentley around, same goes for the 500. It looks as cute as a “real” 500, unless there is a real one around…. if I didn’t have a young son, and if any car built before about 2000 wasn’t basically a death trap, I would buy an original. as it is, I will drop 20G or more on a cute 1957 edition, but spare me the pain of having to look art the original and then selling me a students copy!
I don’t know, even a Belvedere would be okay, but just keep it SMALL, not make it bigger, the 500L looks like an attractive person who needs to lose weight…

If you have to go bigger:

It aint Officer Wilson, It’s You and Me

You know, I dont blame the Officer Wilson’s, the George Zimmerman’s. They are more or less “just following orders” in a society that still treats people of color as disposable, s undesirable. Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, lay cold in Ferguson and Sanford, and enough dead black men besides to stretch from Florida to Missouri.

Every time a Islamic terrorist does something horrible, many of the Jews and Christians jump up and say that the Muslim leaders should publicly denounce the thugs, and usually most of them do, though as often as not, some of those complaining will say “They dont mean it.” When black folks riot because of some horrible injustice, white folks jump up and say, “You black leaders need to condemn this!” and usually most of them do. on and on it goes, when some member of the non male white Christian does almost anything, folks want that group to denounce him or her… well, I say its time for us white folk, especially us white males, and especially white male Christians to stand up and denounce people who support cops who kill unarmed people, white people who judge folks by their skin color, folks who wont hire a black man, and don’t want one for a neighbor and are happy with the status quo of redlining, of colored glass ceilings of all the immoral crap that is white privilege!

You, my fellow white middle class people who think nobody has ever done anything for you, except if you stopped you know, you got jobs never offered to an equally qualified person of color, you know you were never harassed for driving down the street white, or arrested for shopping while white, you never got beat up or shot by a cop of a nutty neighborhood “watchman” because you looked suspiciously pale.

We look at ourselves and say, well, Im not rich, I didn’t get into Harvard because my daddy went there, but in a million little ways every day, you, white person, (and me), while NEVER asking for a favor, always took it as a kindness and never thought about it as a favor.
Lets do something, lets stand for justice. and not the “special justice” for white people.

Three Points, at Least a Two Part Series, Part 2

In the same theme as my recent U.S. – Mexico Border issue, I look at Israel and Palestine. While I stand on firm ground taking my country to task, I realize that I am on much less solid footing when I take on Israel, as a non Jewish American. But I am not the kind of person who allows someone to stop me from speaking my mind because they might label me as anti-Semitic . I am a supporter of Israel, and while, as an atheist, I find Judaism as silly as any other religion, I vigorously support the rights of Jews and Muslims to follow their own faiths.

What I have a problem with is injustice. So having said that, on to the story.

A long time ago, the land of Palestine belonged to many people, and many peoples. According to tradition, God gave most of it to a guy and all his descendants, forever. Abraham. The problem is both groups who claim it as their land today claim Abraham as their father. One side says the other side is the illegitimate linage thru a hand maid (see Margaret Atwood), the other, so called illegitimate side, says, “Hooey!” those old traditions got back on both sides before written language came to either group. what is not disputed by most historians is that both groups lived in relative peace, that is to say in as much peace as the warring factions of semi cave men in Europe at the time, lived in peace. Whether the Children of Israel (Israel (Jacob) was the legitimate descendant of Abraham, according to the Jewish tradition) wondered down into Egypt for food and stayed for 400 years and came back to find their beloved Palestine overrun by folks God told them to kill or not is a little less clear, and really, in spite of this imaginary guy’s commandments, not to the point.

The point is, for hundreds, maybe thousands of years, lots of folks lived in Palestine, lots of Jews, lots of Muslims, and in much of that time, lots of Jews and Muslims migrated to Europe and both became major civilizing influences on the barbarians roaming over modern day France, England, Spain Germany, Ireland, Scotland, and to much less extent over Russia and Scandinavia. The Moors, as Muslims were called then, taught us to count, to write, to use the scientific method, and so much more. eventually, the barbarians drove out most of the civilized moors (who, being the powerful occupiers, were no saints). Somehow, most of the Jews stayed behind, but then in 1492, while Columbus was “discovering a not lost continent, the Catholic church, with much popular support, began to destroy the European Jews. Of course when the protestant movement got going, one of the things they kept was the hatred for Jews. Finally, 450 years later, Hitler’s overreach of Jew hating finally brought many Europeans to their senses somewhat and they realized you could hate Jews, you could make unpleasant and unjust laws against them, but really couldn’t slaughter them like livestock.

But, unlike the legend I was told by my good Christian westerners when I was growing up, European and American guilt did not carve out the state of Israel as a gift to the Jews. After WWII, there was a movement of Jews to Palestine, somewhat supported, at times, by European powers. This migration, and its holocaust origins, along with the carving up of the middle east and Africa by European powers, created much of the problems of the modern middle east. When Israel managed to carve out a country for itself in 1948, it primarily defeated England, not the Arab countries. But once established, it took a dim view of the Muslims living within its borders. A good parallel would be the attitudes of American whites as they took over more and more of the lands of native Americans. the Muslims were more or less exiled into the no mans land that is today’s west bank. then, in 1967, Israel, defeated an allied Arab army and took over even more land that wasn’t theirs. They not only occupied the territories, they exported the most valuable resource in the region, water, to Israel, and to the Jewish settlers and left the Palestinians with a few liters of water per day per person

So for the past 40-50 years, most of Palestine has been divided into a colonial/apartheid system, much as the old south in America, and the recent past of South Africa, except instead of black and white, it has been Jews and Arabs. This has led to an environment where anyone proposing to throw off the tyranny of Israel tends to get a lot of support with the common man in Palestine. Matters have not been helped by the corruption that is endemic with new quasi govt/resistance organizations. the PLO and the PA have both done much to earn the hatred of the people they claim to represent. so when the Gaza Strip fell into the hands of Hamas, Israel, America, Europe, the Arab countries, and the old guard in the wet bank all have a lot of blame to share. At this point, it is hard to know how to unwind the tangle, but it is important to remember, when it comes to the Palestinians:

It’s their country.

Given that Hamas is an evil terrorist organization, given that in the name of defending the rights of the Palestinians, it has probably contributed to any unneeded deaths, considering that its avowed destruction of Israel (about as real of a threat as Castro or Chavez’s threats to destroy America) have shown it to be an unreasonable, unreliable partner for peace with Israel, one still has to figure that Israel, like the U.S. in so many of its international squabbles, has the greater responsibility, as the occupier and oppressor for generations, as well as the rich and powerful and well armed side of the equation, has the burden to figure out how to defend itself, how to defend the average citizen of Gaza, and has to come up with a viable plan to create a two state solution equitable and sustainable for all concerned. Besides, declaring that it is for a free and independent state of Palestine, and besides drawing a map that lets Gaza and the west bank become truly contiguous, and besides restoring proper water rights, Israel, needs to look at being compassionate. Yes, for several hundred years Jews were badly mistreated, even slaughtered by the west, and yes, Israel has a right and responsibility to maintain a safe haven for Jews. But does it not, as a country founded by those who fled the horrors of Christian oppression, extend an understanding to the Muslims in Palestine? Does it not need to say, “look, we have spent the last 60 years so focused on securing a safe place for our people, we have made some horrible mistakes towards our Arab brothers. From this day forward, we will try to amend any harm, we will be your good neighbors. we will relocate the settlements to a site acceptable to both sides, we will restore your land, as much as is practical. in return, we ask that you accept Israel as your neighbor. That we will abide in peace together, respecting our differences in culture, religion and values.”

And if, as is quite possible Hamas will not join in this bargain, then let them wage war against Hamas, but d it in a way that uses the Mossad and other discreet forces to eliminate the bad guys without demolishing villages, schools and hospitals. if there are tunnels that represent a danger. find the tunnels, don’t kill the citizens.

Where is the compassion?

It’s your future

Even though Israel is a young country, compared to Europe and America, its non Arab population is aging and shrinking, except by some degree offset by immigration of Jews from other parts of the world. If the current attitude that Arabs cannot be part of Israel, at least not as equals, the current Muslim population in Israel proper will migrate to other middle east countries as they move towards their own modern societies, leaving the “Flower in the Desert” to wither into a dried up old Gyyast. And if you cannot create a vibrant, sustainable free Palestine, while you are in a position of strength, how will you even survive the revolution when you are a bunch of old people surrounded a million to one by angry, desperate young folks?

Let’s move right on past the idiots sputtering at bus loads of some of the world’s bravest most desperate kids in the world, after these kids have made a life threatening trek that most grown ups would never try, while the lard butts behind the pathetic signs barely made it from Denny’s. Let’s forget all that.

Let’s talk like grown ups about what to do about not only these great kids, but the whole border mess.

First of all, it’s their country. Really. Thousands of years ago, before some of those screaming slobs think the earth was formed, a bunch of Asian hunters followed herds out onto the ice when the world was a bit colder than it is now. after a few, or more likely, after many generations, those Asians ended up in what is Alaska and Canada and a few more generations, or maybe in about the time it took for Europeans to develop a written language, a hundred million “Indians” give or take a few million, built up a continent with villages and roads and streets and farms and commerce, and maybe they never figured out they weren’t still in asia, or maybe they forgot they were ever Asians, or maybe neither.

Their tribes grew until there were somewhere around 100 million folks living in North America. It wasn’t all peace and love as some new agers would have you believe, but by and large, they got along mostly, most of the time. And then came Europeans. Historians and scientists argue about who came first and where they went, but one thing is for certain, plenty of Europeans got here before the pilgrims wandered into a neat and mostly empty New England and began spreading westward into somewhat overgrown villages and farms, poorly defended by the survivors of the European disease apocalypse. By the time the Europeans had secured new England, the native population had dwindled to about 5-10 million, yes, over 90% of all Americans died, due to illnesses imported by us, the white folk. But, being Europeans, with a long tradition of shirking our responsibility, we did not try to help these victims. we took what remained of their wealth, we slaughtered them, we put them into concentration camps, and slightly larger “reservations.” and every time some powerful white ally of the cronies who “founded” this country found a use for anything we had “given” the Indians (how could we give them what they already had?), we would take that away, too. Eventually, most of the victims were rounded up and moved into the great empty west, until white folks decided they needed that, too. so, eventually the genocide was almost complete, but some of the Americans realized that as bad as the Spanish were (and the Canadians were almost as bad as the American Europeans), they were safer in Mexico, so they moved into what was then Mexico. eventually, the European Americans pushed into most of that land, so the original American people had to flee or be treated about as poorly and the white folks were treating the black folk.

Of course, lots of Americans had traveled south hundreds and thousands of years ahead of the Europeans. incas, Aztecs, Mayans, and others. but they were all Americans until the Spanish and American governments drew lines in the sand and killed each other for the rights to steal the Indians’ land. So the first point. What should we do about the 12 million undocumented AMERICANS? including the 70,000 brave kids who came north to find relatives and friends to help save them from the terrible life of their current home countries? It was their country before it was ours…. we “let” them stay in their country.

It’s their country.

Okay, even if you think that people returning to the home of their ancestors, a home that was stolen from them by murder, rape and theft, and especially as some of these folks are descended from Americans who had moved far south of the imaginary line in the sand that Europeans drew, long before that line was drawn, long before the Europeans came and exploited and destroyed everything they could make a greenback dollar off of, is righting a wrong we can just afford to forget, because everybody stole their land from somebody. even then, let me ask you:

Where is the compassion?

Where is the “judge a country, not by how it treats its most privileged, but how it treats the weakest, the poorest, the most disadvantaged”? Where is the “Christian” values?

(Note: there are three solid chapters on Matthew here, so if you are not a Christian, feel free to skip)

Sermon on the Mount

5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

5:23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee;

5:24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

5:25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

5:26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

5:30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

5:31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

5:33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:

5:34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:

5:35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

5:36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

5:38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

5:40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

5:41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

5:42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

5:46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

5:47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

TAKE heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

6:2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

6:4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.

6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

6:16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6:17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;

6:18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

6:28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

6:29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

6:30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

6:32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

JUDGE not, that ye be not judged.

7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

7:4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

7:8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

7:9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

7:10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

(Not to mention the obvious “Suffer the little Children…”)

It’s our future

Ok, so you don’t care about returning what never belonged to you. And you aren’t a Christian, and you don’t even pretend to be a nice person. You are a follower of Ayn Rand and Relativism. Okay, but for all that, you still love America, and want it to be as great and strong as it can be, as long as you don’t have to contribute, your time energy, or money to anything except your personal great good fortune. I get that. I totally disagree, but I get it. I have known many, many, people like that. While I disagree, I respect your honesty, you aren’t trying to hide behind a false front. You really don’t care about 70,000 brave children who risked their lives to get what you take for granted because some great, great, ancestor of yours risked his or her life to try to find a better place.

The truth is, we need immigrants, we especially need immigrants who are young and brave and tough and cunning enough to have survived the gauntlet this kids have survived. I have heard it said, if we do not let the Mexican in, who will change our bed pans in a few years? while it is true that a lot of immigrants have to start out in low paying thankless and often unpleasant jobs. and while it is true, probably a lot of immigrants and even some children of immigrants will cut our grass, change our bed pans, make our food at fast food stores, stock our shelves at big box stores, that is not really the reason we need immigrants, and especially these kids. as the white folks get old and die off, unless you want America to again become a dying country, like it was 500-600 years ago as European diseases wiped out most of the native population, we need these kids and few million more to breathe life into our universities, our hospitals, our banks, our labs and our boardrooms.(Ironic that some of the haters are saying we need to get these kids out of America, because they bring disease!) These kids, and millions more like them are the Irish, the Italian, the Jew, the Chinaman, and yes, even the African American, brought here in chains, and now one is elected as leader of the free world. The old white protestant Christian European stock has dwindled, and truth be told, that is a good thing. America has never been great because it is or was white, but because it was and is diverse, in culture, outlook, color, religion, language and a million other ways. I am a white European, plus or minus a little native American or African blood, but supposedly all white. I am proud of the good things white Europeans have accomplished, but I am under no illusion that all the greatness of our country came from “my people.”

And as far as it costing you, most of these kids have someone waiting for the, we could release them to relatives or friends of their families, and they would be no more of a burden on the system than your kid or mine.

Okay, that’s my three points. Tell me why I am wrong.
